I love teaching Reading!
Welcome to my 7th grade reading website. This is my 16th year teaching. I received my masters and bachelors degree from the University of New Mexico. I am new to beautiful San Antonio, I taught for 15 years in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am married, and I have two boys. My oldest son Christian is 16, and my youngest son, James is 13.
I am very passionate about teaching reading. My goal is for my students to become stronger, more confident readers. It is my job to help my students find books and articles that interest them. My hope is that my students develop a love for reading after being introduced to the various genres through engaging activities. |
7th Grade Reading
We've been busy! We have been working on answering comprehension questions by finding the information in the story before recording the answer. Using the text to prove your answer is important. Students have learned how to identify the narrator's point of view in a story. Currently students are working on being able to find the key events in a story and plot them using a plot mountain. After they identify the key events of a story they are to summarize that story concisely making sure to include the main events.

7th Grade Pre-AP ReadingWe are stretching the curriculum daily by thinking critically about the stories we read as a class. My Pre-AP group is working on expanding their vocabulary by learning Greek and Latin Roots. We also worked on identifying point of view in a story. The last few weeks we have been exploring foreshadowing which is very prevalent in the story The Landlady by Ronald Dahl. Students really enjoyed this short story which left us hanging at the end. We were able to do a few creative writing assignments which enhanced the suspense aspect of the story. Currently we are plotting story elements using the plot mountain.
